Used Phone Grading System
Clear grading is one of the most important factors when buying used phones wholesale. At INENG TECHNOLOGY, we use a practical and transparent used phone grading system to help global wholesale buyers understand the cosmetic condition of original used phones before placing bulk orders.
Our grading standard is mainly based on cosmetic appearance, functional testing, battery condition where applicable, and resale suitability. The purpose is simple: to reduce misunderstanding, improve order confidence, and help buyers choose the right used phone stock for their target market.
Please note: this grading system applies to used phones and original used phones. Refurbished phones are handled separately because they may involve repaired, renewed, or replaced parts.
Our Inspection Standard
All used phones are visually inspected in a well-lit working area and checked from a normal viewing distance. Cosmetic grading focuses on the overall condition of the screen, frame, bezel, rear cover, buttons, camera area, and visible signs of previous use.
Functional testing is handled separately from cosmetic grading. A used phone may show visible cosmetic wear but still be fully functional. Before shipment, our QC team checks key functions based on model and stock condition.
Our standard testing process may include:
- Power on and power off
- Screen display and touch response
- Front and rear cameras
- Speaker and microphone
- Charging port and charging function
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
- Face ID or Touch ID where applicable
- Buttons, vibration, and basic sensors
- Battery health or battery performance where applicable
- IMEI or carrier status check where applicable
- Cosmetic grade confirmation
- Final inspection before packing
For wholesale orders, product condition, grade, battery requirement, and available stock should always be confirmed before shipment.
Cosmetic Condition Definitions
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Light Scratch | Minor surface mark, not obvious during normal viewing. |
| Medium Scratch | Visible mark under normal light, but not severe. |
| Heavy Scratch | Obvious scratch or wear visible at normal viewing distance. |
| Chip | A small impact mark or missing material on the frame or body. |
| Dent | A visible impact mark or deformation on the device body. |
| Discoloration | A visible color difference or worn area on the device surface. |
| Dust | Dust may be visible in speaker, charging port, or small openings. |
| Display Defect | Screen issue that should be confirmed separately before order. |
| Fully Functional | Core functions have been tested and work as expected unless otherwise stated. |
Grade A
Excellent Cosmetic Condition
Grade A used phones are in very good cosmetic condition with only minor signs of previous use. The screen, frame, and rear cover look clean during normal viewing. Small light marks may be present, but the overall appearance remains suitable for higher-quality resale.
Grade A phones are normally preferred by buyers who need better-looking used phone stock for retail resale, online resale, premium second-hand markets, or customers who require cleaner appearance.
| Area | Grade A Standard |
|---|---|
| Screen | Clean overall appearance, no major visible scratches. |
| Frame / Bezel | Minor signs of use only. |
| Rear Cover | Clean appearance with very light marks possible. |
| Function | Fully functional unless otherwise stated. |
| Suitable For | Retail resale, online sellers, premium resale markets. |
Grade B
Good Working Condition
Grade B used phones show normal signs of use. Visible scratches, small marks, light wear, or minor cosmetic imperfections may be found on the screen, frame, bezel, or rear cover. The overall condition is still acceptable for resale, especially in markets where buyers care about both quality and price.
Grade B phones are a popular choice for wholesalers, distributors, repair shops, and resellers who need a balance between cost and reliable working condition.
| Area | Grade B Standard |
|---|---|
| Screen | May have visible light or medium scratches. |
| Frame / Bezel | Normal signs of wear; small marks or minor chips may exist. |
| Rear Cover | Visible use marks or minor discoloration may exist. |
| Function | Fully functional unless otherwise stated. |
| Suitable For | Wholesale resale, distributors, repair shops, and price-sensitive markets. |
Grade C
Heavy Cosmetic Wear, Tested Core Functions
Grade C used phones show heavier signs of use. Obvious scratches, dents, chips, worn areas, or visible cosmetic defects may exist across the device. These phones are usually chosen by buyers who prioritize price over appearance.
Grade C does not automatically mean the phone is defective. Core functions are tested unless otherwise stated. If a device has screen defects, display issues, serious functional problems, or is sold for repair or parts, it should be clearly listed as special stock instead of standard Grade C.
| Area | Grade C Standard |
|---|---|
| Screen | May have obvious scratches or visible wear. |
| Frame / Bezel | Dents, chips, or heavy wear may exist. |
| Rear Cover | Heavy scratches, marks, worn areas, or discoloration may exist. |
| Function | Core functions tested unless otherwise stated. |
| Suitable For | Low-cost resale, repair shops, mixed stock buyers, and price-sensitive markets. |
Original Used Phones
Original used phones are devices kept in their original used condition without major refurbishment. They may show natural signs of previous use depending on the grade.
Some wholesale buyers prefer original used phones because they want devices with original parts and original cosmetic condition. Availability depends on current stock, model, grade, and market supply.
For buyers sourcing used iPhones wholesale, original used condition, battery health, Face ID or Touch ID status, and cosmetic grade should be confirmed before shipment.
Battery Health
Battery condition is checked and clearly stated where applicable. For used iPhones, battery health may vary by model, grade, and stock condition.
If a specific battery health level is required, please contact our team before ordering. Battery options depend on current stock availability and wholesale price level.
Functional Testing vs Cosmetic Grading
Cosmetic grade and functional condition are not the same.
- A Grade A used phone has better appearance.
- A Grade B used phone may show normal wear but can still be fully functional.
- A Grade B used phone may show normal wear but can still be fully functional.
- A defective or parts-only phone should be listed separately and clearly confirmed before order.
This separation helps wholesale buyers better understand what they are purchasing and reduces unnecessary disputes after delivery.
Which Grade Should You Choose?
